If you are an NBA fan, you know that being tall comes in Handy at the professional level. With an average player height of 6 ft 3 inches, this means that big is the norm. But Unfortunately many of the tallest players struggle with injuries throughout their career. With that being said, we are back with our list of the 10 tallest NBA players ever.
10Rik Smits (7 ft 4 in)
“The Dunkin’ Dutchman” aka Rik Smits, is a Dutch Born NBA star with a blood curdling height of 7ft 4 inches. Smits played for The Indiana Pacers his entire career from 1988 to 2000 and resigned after Indiana lost to the Lakers in Finals.
9Mark Eaton (7 ft 4 in)
This pro also stood at 7 ft 4 inches, and he played for the Utah Jazz from 1982 to 1993. He was awarded the best NBA Defensive Player 2 years in a row, and was a 1989 NBA All-Star. Arguably one of the best defensive players of all time, upon retirement Jazz honored his legacy by retiring his jersey.
8Pavel Podkolzin (7 ft 5 in)
This time from Mother Russia, Standing at 7ft 5 inches, he was a favorite choice in the 2004 draft because of his size and ability, however, things never worked out as planned, as he struggled throughout his career, and never fully adjusted to the league, which is why he only made five appearances in the 2004-2005 season.
7Chuck Nevitt (7 ft 5 in)
Standing at 7ft 5 inches. Nevitt spent 9 years in the NBA playing as Centre For several NBA teams, including The Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and the Detroit Pistons. He is the only player on our list to have won a Championship in the NBA and will be remembered as a member of the 1985 Lakers’ championship roster.
6Sim Bhullar (7 ft 5 in)
The first player of Indian descent to ever play in NBA, 7ft 5 inch tall canadian born Sim Bhullar in on number six. Bhullar joined the Sacramento Kings for the 2014 NBA Summer League. However, the Kings waived the contract on October, 2014 so he joined Reno Bighornes as an affiliated player. In July 2015, Bhullar re-joined the Kings for the 2015 NBA Summer League, but After appearing in just one game for the Kings, Bhullar left the team in order to join the Canadian national team for the Pan Am Games. Did anybody smell revenge here?
5Yao Ming (7 ft 6 in)
At Number 5 is 7ft 6 inch Yao Ming. Yao was selected by the Houston Rockets as the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft. Yao announced his retirement in 2011 due to a series of foot and ankle injuries which forced him to miss 250 games in his last six seasons. 4Shawn Bradley (7 ft 6 in)
With a height of 7ft 6 inches, number four is American-German NBA player Shawn Bradley. he’s the type of guy you wouldn’t want to get into a fight with. Shawn played center for the Philadelphia 76ers, the New Jersey Nets and the Dallas Mavericks throughout his career. Bradley was inconsistent in scoring and rebounding, but he always excelled at blocking shots, i mean he better have been, he’s the size of groot.
3Slavko Vranes (7 ft 6.5 in)
Montenegro, if you know of this Balkan country, chances are it’s because one good long reason, and his name is Slavko Vranes. He is 7 feet 6.5 inch tall and has played for several teams in the NBA, including the New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers. Slavko Vranes struggled to prove that even if you are one of the tallest players in the world, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a great player. well one things for sure, i’m sure he’d beat me in a one on one.
2Manute Bol (7 ft, 6.75 in)
Sudan is not only known for their long anacondas, but also for their long NBA players. The legendary Manute Bol was a whopping height of 7ft 6.75 inches, he was one of the tallest players to ever play in the NBA. He is considered among the best shot-blockers the sport has ever seen, but other aspects of his game were considered fairly weak. He played professionally for ten years from 1985–1995 with the Bullets, Golden State Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers and with the Miami Heat.
1Gheorghe Mureșan (7 ft 7 in)
Tallest of the tall, a giant of all the giants, on number one is retired Romanian NBA star Gheorghe Mureșan with a mind-boggling height of 7ft 7in. Muresan was selected by Washington Bullets in 1993, and was one player you couldn’t keep your eyes off of. Unfortunately a persistent back injury restricted Muresan to just six seasons in the NBA.
