Top 10 Worst Trades In NBA History
It’s apparent when you know someone is getting over on you. You learn it in 3rd grade when you got your lunch packed by your mommy swindled away from you from a 5th grader (Don’t act like it never happened to you). But when seasoned veteran General Managers get fuckin taken by other GMs in the NBA. And when you hear the news, You cringe and know that this trade is bad. And usually, you’re spot on. With that being said, we are back to our list of the Top Ten NBA Trade Robberies.
10Vince Carter for Antawn Jamison
The two North Carolina Tar Heel college teammates were ironically traded for each other in 1998 on Draft day. While Vince became Vinsanity in Toronto and winning the rookie of the year award, Antwan was just another ok player for years in the NBA. It’s like being a television character actor, you get jobs but no one remembers your name or what you were in…was it Golden State Antwan? I can’t remember…
9Kareem Abdul Jabbar for 4 dudes
Now this would probably be the biggest robbery ever but since it was so long ago, we’ll just give it its due. Kareem Abdul Jabbar ended his career as the all-time leader in points, including 19 all star appearances and 6 MVP’s, which is most ever in the NBA, and is considered one of the greatest NBA players of all-time. So even IF we mentioned the 4 players by name, it still wouldn’t matter. Its like trading your Ferrari for 4 Hot Dogs on a stick. No matter how many you get, its still lopsided…
8Lamarcus Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas
During this list you’re going to hear yourself saying “Who?”. The Chicago Bulls needed a power forward badly after blowing the pick for Eddy (lazy ass) Curry with the 2nd pick in 2001. But 5 years later, they made the right choice and picked up dope ass big man Lamarcus Aldridge from Texas.. but then the Bulls decided to get drunk and high and trade Lamarcus Aldridge for Tyrus “who the fuck is this guy” Thomas. Aldridge now makes 20 million a year with the Spurs while Thomas plays for The Iowa Energy and was recently seen scrubbing toilets at the Galleria Mall for extra work.
7Charles Barkley for Jeff Hornacek
In 1992 Charles Barkley was unstoppable. And thats why its preplexing as to why the Dumb- ass Sixers traded him away for Jeff Hornacek and two bench losers. The next season in 1993, Barkley led the universe in every big man category, carried the Phoenix Suns to the NBA finals and won the 93’ NBA’s Most Valuable Player award. Prediction for 2019, the sixers trade away Joel Embid for 3 bags of Corn Nuts. Say it with me Philly, (in chanting tone) Trust. the. .Process
6Dirk Nowitzki for Robert Traylor
God damn it Milwaukee, you can’t get out of our list can you? Now it’s never a certain that a European player will ever make it in the Association. Tall, lanky good shooters with no balls is usually the norm. But when the Dallas Mavericks traded their 6th pick in 1998 to the Bucks for their 9th Pick Dirk Nowitzki from Germany. That was a high way robbery that had irreparable damages for years in Milwaukee. Traylor was a Michigan Power forward standout, that was fat even in college.. You cant be fat in college then think that you’re gunna be fit when your a millionaire NBA player! Fat in college? Duh Bucks…what did you think was going to happen when Traylor got money, work on his shot??
5James Harden for Kevin Martin and Jeremy Lamb
At one point the Oklahoma City Thunder had Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Serge Ibaka all on the same team. And yes, they went to the NBA finals… But prior to the 2012-2013 season, the Thunder thought it might be better to trade the sixth man Harden for K- Mart and Jeremy Lamb who both aren’t shit. And today, it can be argued that Harden, Westbrook, and Durant will be the top 3 basketball players that will walk the earth for many years to come.
4Pau Gasol for Javaris Crittenton, Kwame Brown and brother Marc Gasol
Ok, this one has an asterisk behind it. because Marc Gasol turned into one of the most premiere Centers the NBA has seen in decades. But in this trade Marc was a bit of a throw in only because he never even played an NBA game and was unproven. Grizzlies, Pau Gasol to the lakers for Crittenton and Kwame Brown though was a super beat-down trade orchestrated by the logo and greatest GM Jerry West..It instantly changed the Lakers from an-OK team to a dynasty and perpelled them to the NBA finals 4 years in a row – and to make the trade even more memorable the NBA and David Stern cock blocked the Chris Paul trade to the Lakers years after, citing the Pau Gasol trade and that the Lakers had an unfair advantage..and to prove our point at number 4 – let’s all agree that Javaris and Kwame, are two great examples of waste of talent and waste of earth’s oxygen.
3Scottie Pippen for Olden Polynice
The Seattle Supersonics thought it would be straight to trade away versatile wing-man draft pick Scottie Pippen for Haitian center and 8th pick Olden Polynice to the Chicago Bulls and a few draft picks in 1987. 7 years later and 3 championships under Pippen’s belt, the Supersonics wanted to right the ship gone bad and trade their star Shawn Kemp for Scottie in 1994. And apparently Michael Jordan endorsed the trade after then coach and Tar Heel alumni friend George Karl called Jordan and asked if that trade was smart…while MJ at the time was filming Space Jam and striking out on breaking balls in the Minors. He told Karl to do it, because Scottie would make his team better. But who ended up backing out? The Sonics owner Barry Ackerly who re-negged on the deal last minute! And The Bulls ended up winning 3 more chips with MJ and Pippen
2Ray Allen for Wally Szczerbiak, Delonte West, and Jeff Green
Seattle just keeps dropping their panties don’t they? Trading away their super star Ray Allen in 97’ for super mediocre dudes that really shouldn’t even be mentioned.. Jesus Shuttlesworth would make the super team complete with Paul Pierce, KG and Rondo and help win Boston’s first championship in 22 years. Speaking of giving up panties, the Sonics once had Kevin Durant and drafted Russell Westbrook, but decided that Oklahoma is worthy of an NBA franchise after new ownership reported that the city would not approve of public funding to construct a new arena. SO, they changed their name and moved on up to the East side of OK city. Damn, where was GoFundMe when you needed it?
1Kobe Bryant for Vlade Divac
Now this one is laughable in so many ways. High school phenom Kobe Bryant from Philly was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th pick in the 1996 NBA draft. As excited Charlotte was of landing the phenom at number 13, swindler and snake oil sales man, Jerry “the fucking greatest GM ever” West came calling 1 hour later, and subsequnetly bent charlotte over and rammed his logo up the Hornet’s ass. Trading then 28 year old Vlade Divac for Kobe on draft day. 20 years later in a captain obvious interview, Vlade Divac tells a Reporter that the trade for Kobe was a no-brainer by the Lakers…Uhhh, No shit…
And there you have it, our list of the top 10 NBA trade robberies. Have we forgot to mention any other lopsided deals? If so, Mention them in the comments section, below. And as always, don’t forget to like, share and subscribe.
